The first Nomad put into production was designed with a very specific mission in mind: to get a man in a wheelchair back on the water, where he belongs. This wasn’t just about creating a boat, it was about restoring freedom, adventure, and dignity. Every design choice was centered around accessibility, safety, and independence.
The most unique feature is the custom wheelchair davit I designed and fabricated myself. It’s a lifting system that allows for safe and easy transfer from the dock to the deck and even down to the water level if needed. It’s strong, reliable, and can be operated with minimal effort. The goal was to make boarding seamless, not a struggle.
The catamaran layout was perfect for this kind of project. With its wide beam and stable platform, it gave me the flexibility to design open, obstacle-free deck that could accommodate a wheelchairs turning radius. I custom fabricated bucket seats that swiveled to make loading and unloading from the wheelchair smooth. The shock mitigating seat pedestals I installed made steering comfortable, safe and easy.
This wasn’t about meeting ADA standards, it was about going beyond them to make something that truly works in the real world, on the water. Seeing the smile on his face the first time we launched made every late night in the shop 100% worth it.
